Surprise! It's not about food this time....

I realize the majority of our posts are about food, which I love! However, my next favorite thing in life are sewing projects. For no other reason than to ignite your own creativity I am posting about my most recent projects; a birthday banner, a birthday chair cover and a birthday place mat! Typically, when a birthday arrives in our home I frantically scramble to color posters and banners the night before to decorate our home. I was sick of wasting all of that time, paper, markers for hideously ugly signs like these.....

So I created these for a new birthday tradition.....

If you like the idea I totally give you permission to copy them....enjoy! They were very fun and quick to make.

I've tried to get in touch with you several times by the e-mail you get when you press Idaho, for example. I haven't heard anything back. I have a few questions. Help! How do we reach you or someone who will answer?

I wish I could claim this project! However, it was my cute sister Krista's masterpiece. She didn't use a pattern, she just cut out letters she had blown up on her computer, cut them out and glued them on her flags (for the birthday sign). Her place mat I believe she just made up her pattern too. I will have her post a comment about any other details that may help. Sorry! I am not a sewer, so I am not much help :)

Were the letters and stars paper or fabric? How do you keep them from fraying if they are fabric? I am not good at sewing, so I need help!

Diane,

That is a good question. The letters and stars are fabric. If you go to your local fabric store and ask for Heat n' Bond or a product similar they can help you find what you need. This product is found on a bolt, like fabric, and it has double-sided glue. You can iron it on to a piece of fabric and then iron that onto another piece of fabric. That is how the letters are attached to the banner. Hopefully that helps!

I love your birthday chair cover!! I don't suppose you sell them? If you do, I would love to purchase one for my classroom.

No, we don't make them. Sorry! We just made up the pattern and went with it. From a professional eye it probably is pretty silly, but we sure had fun! It didn't take long at all to make..it was just like sewing a pillow case ;)
